Deskthaw

Terms of service

Last updated October 13, 2026

These terms cover the Deskthaw website, the free beta, the preorder, and the Deskthaw Mac app once it ships. Your agreement is with Anton, who runs Deskthaw, at PO Box 384, Medway, MA 02053, United States. Questions go to [email protected].

The free beta

The beta is free, and it is a test build rather than the finished app, so expect bugs and rough edges. It stops working by itself forty-five days after you first launch it on a Mac, and in any case on a date fixed when the build was made, and it says so when it has ended. It works that out on your Mac, so there is nothing to cancel and nothing to pay. Downloading it does not buy a licence to the finished app.

At first run it asks once whether it may send a few counts about how you used it, with two buttons and nothing preselected. Nothing is sent unless you choose "Share beta counts". What those counts are, how long they are kept and how to have them deleted is set out on the privacy page. To remove the beta from your Mac, choose "Remove local data and quit" in the menu, then drag the app to the Trash.

The beta comes with no promise beyond the warranty and liability section below, which applies to it as it does to the rest of this page. Because nothing is paid for it, there is nothing to refund.

What a preorder buys

A preorder is $29, paid once, and buys a licence to the Deskthaw Mac app for you, on the Macs you use. The first five hundred preorders include lifetime updates, which means updates for as long as Deskthaw is sold. They are counted in order of purchase from Stripe's record of completed orders, and Stripe's payment link stops accepting this preorder after five hundred payments. If that count is ever wrong, it is resolved in your favour. No one will ever get lifetime updates for less than a preorder paid. After the first five hundred, the price is $39 with a year of updates, and the app keeps working after the year ends. The capped preorder and launch week at the same price are the two planned deals.

Who sells it

Preorders run through Stripe Managed Payments. Stripe is the merchant of record: it charges your card, collects and remits any sales tax, sends the receipt, and handles disputes. Receipts are delivered through Link, Stripe's payment and receipt service, so the sender may read Link rather than Deskthaw, and the charge usually appears on your statement as LINK.COM* DESKTHAW. Depending on how you pay, your statement may show a different Stripe descriptor instead; if a line you do not recognise appears, email us and we will identify it. In the United States and Canada, sales tax is added at checkout based on your address. Elsewhere, the checkout price already includes any local sales tax Stripe is required to collect. Either way, Stripe shows the total before you pay.

Refunds

A preorder is refundable in full at any time before the app ships, and for thirty days after it ships. If Deskthaw never ships, every preorder is refunded. Email [email protected] and the refund is instructed within seven working days of your request, to the original payment method. Because Stripe is the merchant of record, you can also ask Stripe directly using the details on your receipt. A preorder can be months old by the time you ask, and card networks sometimes refuse a credit to a card that has since expired or closed. If that happens we will agree another way to pay you back rather than treat the refund as satisfied.

Delivery and trial

The app is expected by 31 March 2027, which is the date the build plan supports at my working hours.

If it cannot be met, you will hear without having to ask. The email will give a definite new date, or say plainly that no date can be given, and will offer you the choice to wait, or to cancel and be refunded with a link that does it in one step. If the delay is longer than thirty days, or open-ended, your order is cancelled and refunded automatically unless you tell me to hold it. If a new date I gave you slips again, I will ask before that date whether you agree to wait longer; unless you say yes, the order is cancelled and refunded.

Preorders were promised priority for a small beta group. The beta became a free download instead, so a preorder does not need a place in a queue to get it. None of that changes the date above, and none of it changes the refund rights set out earlier on this page.

When the app ships, you get a download link and licence by email at the address you paid with. The app requires macOS 13 or later. At launch there is also a 14-day trial with everything unlocked and no card, so you do not have to buy blind. The licence is for the Mac app; no Windows or Linux version is promised.

Not medical advice

Deskthaw shows short, general desk moves. It is not a medical device, a diagnosis, or a treatment plan, and it does not know your body. Stop any move that hurts. If you have an injury, a condition, or pain that does not go away, see a doctor or physiotherapist before following any exercise, including these.

What these moves can do to you

This is a plain description of the risk, not a waiver, and it does not ask you to give up any claim. These moves are physical activity and physical activity can hurt you. The ordinary risks are soreness, a strained muscle, losing your balance, and making an injury you already have worse. Deskthaw shows you a movement. It cannot see you do it, and it does not know your body, your medical history or any injury you are carrying. You decide what you attempt, and stopping when something hurts is the most useful thing you can do. None of that replaces the advice above about seeing a doctor or physiotherapist, and none of it limits the warranties set out below.

Acceptable use

Do not resell, sublicense, or redistribute the app or its licence, and do not use the website's forms to send spam or automated traffic. Deskthaw may refuse or refund an order that breaks these terms.

Warranty and liability

Massachusetts does not let a seller of consumer goods disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness, and does not let that rule be waived by agreement (M.G.L. c. 106, ยง 2-316A). So this page does not attempt it: those warranties apply, and nothing here limits them. Beyond them, the website and the app are provided as they are.

For everything other than injury to a person, liability for anything arising from the website, the preorder or the app is limited to the amount you paid. That limit does not apply to injury to the person, to fraud, to a breach of the warranties the law gives you, or to anything else the law does not permit to be limited. Deskthaw shows moves, and an app that suggests you move your body should not be trying to cap what it owes you if it hurts you.

Trademarks

Apple, Mac and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. Deskthaw is an independent app, not made or endorsed by Apple.

Law and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States, and nothing in them takes away a right your own country's consumer law gives you. Changes carry a new date at the top. A change never applies backwards to a preorder already placed: the terms you bought under are the terms you keep, unless you agree to new ones. If some part of this page turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands, and the unenforceable part is read as narrowly as it takes to make it valid.
